Safeguarding
Safeguarding Statement
At Manuden Primary School, safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility.
As part of our vision—“A small school with big ideas… Growing hearts, Growing minds, Growing dreams”—we are fully committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment where children can thrive both academically and personally. Our comprehensive safeguarding practices ensure that children are protected and supported, both in school and at home.
We follow all Government guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education, and implement robust policies and procedures to uphold the highest safeguarding standards.
Our Safeguarding Practices
- We have a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), Mr. Andrew Price, and two Deputy DSLs, Mrs. Gemma Jarmain and Miss Lizzie Grant, who are fully trained to oversee safeguarding across the school.
- All staff receive annual safeguarding training as part of their INSET and are trained to Level 1 Safeguarding by ECC every three years.
- Staff undergo training on Prevent (Radicalisation and Extremism).
- Safer recruitment is a priority—every staff member is DBS checked, and at least one panel member in every recruitment process has Safer Recruitment training.
- All visitors are signed in at reception and accompanied by a staff member unless they provide DBS clearance. Visiting professionals and supply staff must present photographic ID, with their DBS confirmed by their employer.
- Volunteers undergo an induction process and must have a DBS check before working with children.
- School entry points are secure, with key code access or restricted entry.
- Pupil well-being is embedded in our curriculum through PSHE lessons that help children understand how to keep themselves safe and identify trusted adults beyond their family.
- E-Safety is an integral part of our computing curriculum and reinforced through school-wide focus days, regular updates to parents, and dedicated sessions.
- A first-day response system is in place for children who are absent, ensuring prompt follow-up if a child does not arrive at school.

Photographs and Videos
At Manuden Primary School, we understand that parents and carers enjoy seeing photos and videos of their children’s school life. However, safeguarding remains our priority.
- Any photographs or videos taken at school events (e.g., productions, sports days) are for personal enjoyment only and must not be shared online or in any way that could place a child at risk. This is reinforced before performances and events.
- Occasionally, we invite the local press to capture special achievements or school events.
- We also use pupil photographs for our website, newsletters, parent information meetings, and school displays. Parental permissions for these are reviewed annually.
